Happiness is...

...Listening to 'You're Beautiful' by James Blunt

The vase of sweet peas that sit on the hearth - you grew them from seed and you are now able to enjoy the fruits of your labours.

The new gizmos that you bought down B&Q. They let you turn on your lamps and associated 'mood lighting' by remote control (strangely satisfying).

Driving to work down country lanes and seeing the fields all yellow and dry with hay bales glinting in the morning sunlight.

The approaching bank holiday.

Singing mice.

Sometimes you just have to smile...

I don't care what this thing says...

... I am NOT stingy!

The True You

You want your girlfriend or boyfriend to be more relaxed, calm, and composed.
With respect to money, you are a bit stingy.
You think good luck depends on maintaining good relationships with others.
The hidden side of your personality tends to be satisfied to care for things with a minimal amount of effort.
You are tend to think about others' feelings a lot, perhaps because you are so eager to be liked.
When it comes to finding a romantic partner, you don't have any particular type in mind, but you are inclined to look for someone who will say yes when you ask him / her out.

My name's not Murphy...

Transferred from MySpace

...and yet it might as well be.

'Murphys Law' - roughly translated as "if it can go wrong, it will". If you want to see Murphys Law in action, don't fear. Just hang around with me for a few days and youll probably see it stalking me, getting ready to pounce.

Seriously... this week was a disaster by Wednesday.

Here's an overview:

Monday... was busy but went pretty smoothly.

My boss left, and I took on his job. On the plus side, I had two (long awaited) new members of staff start. On the negative side, I discovered that despite the department having originally paid a heap of cash for extended warranties for 3 laptops, no one had filled in the correct paperwork and consequently the warranties were invalid.

(thinks to self... "well, no point crying over spilt milk... fortunately the laptops are working fine, so it doesn't matter too much")

Tuesday... things start to go awry.

The hard disk in one of new people's laptops has died, and as I discovered yesterday, the extended warrantee isn't valid. I need to buy a new hard disk urgently. We're between budgets at the moment and the new one wont be available for another couple of weeks.

Even if I could get around that, I'm not yet an authorised signatory and the only other person who can authorise the expenditure is on holiday for two weeks.

Wednesday... more of the same.

Hmmph... the person I need to speak to about becoming a signatory is also on holiday.

(thinks... "No matter. Will get on with something constructive and write the job description and advert for another vacancy that Ive been told I can advertise for").

I write the job description, the person specification and the advert and then I ring Personnel.

...Personnel are very confused...

Another department is attempting to stake a claim on this vacancy. Typically, I can't get hold of the person who told me the post was within my department (he's on holiday), and I can't ring the person who is staking a claim to the post (as he is also on holiday).
